In celebration of World Environment Day 2026, the Foundation, alongside YouthHubAfrica, TechHer, the Centre for Climate Action, Innovation and Engagement, and ActionAid Nigeria, convened The Climate of Our Cities: Urbanisation, Creativity and Climate Resilience in Nigeria on 5 June 2026 at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre. Anchored by a dynamic exhibition, the event invited participants to engage with bold, practical responses to the climate pressures facing urban communities: sustainable fashion, clean energy, climate-smart agriculture, environmentally conscious design, and innovative waste recovery solutions. Fireside conversations with Engr. Abubakar Sam, Chief Strategy Officer at Jaiz Bank, and Ms. Aisha Aliyu-Bima, environmentalist and writer, illuminated the far-reaching consequences of rapid urbanisation: among them flooding, heat stress, air pollution, waste mismanagement, and mounting strain on critical infrastructure. Together they made a compelling case for more sustainable, climate-resilient approaches to urban development.
The Foundation, in partnership with Flow With Pride Impact Hub, the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, and the Federal Ministry of Health, commemorates World Menstrual Hygiene Day with a focus on ensuring every girl in Nigeria can manage her menstrual health with dignity, knowledge, and the resources she needs.
Organised in collaboration with Clasier Publishing, the event brought Josephine Effah-Chukwuma, widow of the late human rights advocate Innocent Chukwuma, into live conversation around her book Against All Odds: A Biography of Innocent Chukwuma. Discussions moved between the personal cost of principled resistance and what it means to document a life honestly.
The Foundation hosted a group of National Youth Service Corps members for an educational visit focused on governance, civic engagement, and national development. Corps members toured the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua: A Life of Service exhibition and engaged with Foundation Programme Managers on ongoing initiatives.
Convened in partnership with the NEST Programme (FCDO), the dialogue brought together over 100 participants across government, private sector, civil society, labour, and academia to translate macroeconomic stabilisation gains into visible welfare recovery for ordinary Nigerians. The session produced four priority reform areas with actionable, politically feasible policy proposals. Dr. Tope Fasua, Special Adviser to the President on Economic Affairs, committed publicly to routing the findings to the Economic Management Team.
A film screening of Aféfé, a short film examining social norms and gendered expectations embedded in everyday life, particularly the unequal distribution of unpaid domestic work and its consequences for women’s economic opportunities. Organised in collaboration with the MTV Staying Alive Foundation and with support from the High Commission of Canada in Nigeria. A panel discussion followed the screening.
Organised in partnership with Clasier Publishing, the event centred on The Living Secret: Endowment for Development in Nigeria — An Ogoni Experiment, examining how local ownership can drive sustainable development. The discussion unpacked the Full Local Ownership model as a practical approach to community-led socioeconomic reform.
Themed “Give to Gain: Taking Action to Enable Inclusive Development in Nigeria”, the conference brought together policymakers, development partners, civil society actors, and gender advocates to advance actionable strategies for gender justice and inclusive development. Organised in collaboration with Christian Aid, Plan International, Oxfam, the African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development, and the Side-by-Side Movement.
