Chapter 11 of 17
Spiritual Strength - Islam
Shehu Yar’Adua was a devout Muslim who carried out his religious duties and charitable efforts quietly and with humility. While most of his contributions to the Muslim community were private, he made notable public impacts in key areas. He played a leading role in Islamic development initiatives, including the inauguration of the Islam in Africa Organisation (IAO) in Abuja in July 1991 and his service as Chairman of the Abuja National Mosque Council Executive Committee, where he helped coordinate funding and construction of the Abuja National Mosque Complex. In 1978, he was also honoured with the position of Amir-ul-Hajj, leading Nigerian pilgrims on the annual Hajj.
