Chapter 10 of 17

Business - Development

After retiring from military service, General Shehu Yar’Adua transitioned into the private sector with the aim of contributing to national development through enterprise. He partnered with investors to establish ventures in publishing, agriculture, manufacturing, oil services, shipping, and banking. While not all businesses succeeded, several—such as Habib Bank, Hamada Carpets, and Nicotes (now Intel Oil Services)—achieved notable success. Beyond financial outcomes, these enterprises were significant for their role in creating employment opportunities and providing essential goods and services to Nigerians, reflecting his broader commitment to economic development and nation-building.
